Smoky quartz colored quartz

Smoky quartz his  name “quartz” was introduced by Georgius Agricola (1494/1555) in 1529, a 16th century scholar considered the father of mineralogy.

Smoky quartz is one of the colored variants of mineral quartz, it is a macrocrystalline quartz, which owes its color to the natural or artificial irradiation of the aluminum salts it contains.

Formerly referred to as smoky quartz, smoky quartz gets its name because of its color, it is transparent to translucent, rarely opaque, and has a glassy luster.

Cairngorm quartz is a variety of smoky quartz discovered in the Cairngorms mountains of Scotland. It usually has a smoky yellow-brown color, some specimens are gray-brown. The Cairngorms are a mountain range located in the Highlands of Scotland.

Large natural crystals have been found in France, particularly in the Haute Vienne.
