Paraiba tourmaline on quartz, 275 gr, origin Brazil
Superb mineral from the State of Paraiba in Brazil composed of various varieties of crystallized translucent tourmalines.
These crystals of tourmaline on quartz are of compact shape and for others of elongated shape with longitudinal streaks, some crystals are positioned in small geodes on the quartz.
The mineral native to the state of Paraiba in Brazil is composed of various colors ranging from white, black, green to neon bluish green, and purple.
It features mostly Paraiba tourmaline, but also crystals of achroite, schorl, verdelite, and purple tourmaline.
It was not until the beginning of the 13th century that the Dutch brought tourmaline back from Sri Lanka under the native name of “Turamali” which means “stone of mixed colors”, noting that these stones attracted the ash of their pipe, they named them “Aschentrekker” which means “stone that attracts ashes”.
This property of tourmaline is due to the electricity that is born in the gem as a result of its particular internal structure.
When a tourmaline prism is heated, it charges with positive electricity at one end and negative at the other, this is called the pyroelectric property of tourmaline.
